The aim of the international co-operation is to build a dedicated and efficient consortium with some of the best experts of the field for developing a genuinely novel anti-influenza drug and a molecular diagnostic method to detect viral drug resistance to current drug therapy. The consortium is based on the long term collaboration and expertise of the German Max Planck Institute for Biochemistry and the Hungarian biotech Vichem Chemie Research Ltd. on the kinase-inhibitor drug discovery field. The consortium is expanded on the German side by the Max Planck Institute for Infectious Diseases in viral assays, and on the Hungarian side by the Ist Department of Pathology and Experimental Cancer Research, Semmelweis University in cell biology and it’s spin off company, the KPS Ltd. in developing novel methods for molecular diagnostics.
