During our laboratory studies we succesfully created working prototypes of mesenchymal stem cells (MSC) expressing TRAIL. These cells are able to inhibit the growth of tumor cells in vitro.

 

To reduce the risk during clinical applications we tested special medium excluding bovin serum and  of viral vectors can harm human cell lines, therefore we used non-viral transient transfection (66% efficiency) on MSC. 44% of MSC were still alive one week after transfection. All elements of technology has been set up.
